Should you build a home bar in your kitchen?

A recent report described how home bars are all the rage for Kitchen Renovations. We’ve got all the information on what a good home bar looks like, and how to decide if your kitchen needs one.

What is a home bar?

A home bar is exactly what it sounds like. Instead of going out for drinks, you can enjoy them in the comfort of your own home – with a dedicated space for your favorite drinks, cocktail gear, and glasses.

Home bars are getting more and more popular, as more people choose to socialize at home. But they are also changing for the modern age. This isn’t your parents’ drinks cabinet.

You can design a home bar which matches the scheme of your kitchen renovations. For example, if you prefer an open, modern look, go for open shelves which will display your drinks selection handsomely. Or, if you enjoy a traditional style, choose elegant fitted cabinets in modern materials.

Does my kitchen need a home bar?

There are two questions you need to ask yourself about a home bar:

  1. Do I have the space?
  2. Will I use it?

Kitchens are busy spaces, so you should think about your priorities. If you have a family to feed, then you might prefer to use the space for a generous dining table. However, if you’re designing a sophisticated, stripped-back kitchen, then a fitted home bar might just complete the look.

A home bar is most useful for people who entertain regularly, and can afford the space. If your kitchen is smaller, or you don’t often have drinks at home, then a neat drinks trolley is an efficient alternative.
